A mile of West Dennis beach is closed after two piping plovers were accidentally killed by a car Friday night. A mile of Non resident beach that will be closed until further notice.Plovers are an endangered species. Some summer renters are concerned that the beach might not be open to them this summer because of the birds.
Dennis Town Administrator, Elizabeth Sullivan says "there are 12 nests on the beach right now and the birds are thriving".
As of right now that stretch of the beach will stay closed and there will be a vote on Tuesday to decide if it will reopen or stay closed.
