JT Chronicles & Children's Cove Virtual Block Party: Online Safety for Kids

Children’s Cove and JT Chronicles to Host Interactive Virtual Block Party with Tips for Online Safety

Hyannis, MA – As part of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Children’s Cove will livestream a virtual block party to have some fun while starting the conversation with parents, caregivers, and teens on how be smart and be safe online. Hosted by motivational speaker and social influencer Jonathan Thompson, of JT’s Chronicles, the block party is an interactive discussion with Children’s Cove, Cape Cod Moms and the Institute for Responsible Online and Cellphone Communication (IROC2).This educational and entertaining event is free for anyone who wants to learn more about body safety and ways to reduce the chances of the online sexual exploitation of children. There will be a Q&A, activities, and prizes.

The block party will livestream on Zoom and social media on Tuesday, April 27, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Children’s Cove will introduce the issue of online sexual exploitation and explain why it’s important to understand. They will also feature tips on how to identify and block online threats. Participants can ask questions and will learn about The Pledge, a commitment that parents and caregivers make with their children to stay safe online.

Children’s Cove works in partnership with local law enforcement, the Department of Children and Families, the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health, Cape Cod Healthcare, and the District Attorney’s Office for the comprehensive and coordinated response to cases of crimes against children, including of online and commercial sexual exploitation of children on the Cape & Islands. The virtual block party is part of Children’s Cove’s It’s Up to You, or IU2U, campaign designed to take immediate steps to equip youth and parents/caregivers with vital insight, practical information, and tools to combat the insidious incidence of online sexual exploitation, which has surged during the COVID-19 pandemic.
