History Was Made 46 Years Ago Today. Here's The Rest Of The Story

46 years ago today record and department stores started selling a new double record live set from Peter Frampton. 'Frampton Comes Alive' , was according to Frampton hopefully eventually going 'Gold'. Little did he know it would become a MONSTER on the charts - Multiple times Platinum and legendary for being one of, if not the, biggest live albums EVER...

I remember it well because when it caught fire on LP, Cassette & 8-Track EVERYONE had a copy. You couldn't hang out with friends without the LP being played no mater where you would journey.

Back in the day at my tiny Jr-Sr. High School of about 400 kids Juniors and Seniors would have open study classes in the cafeteria and in the corner was a turntable that could be used during these time periods. The caf was separated from classrooms enough that it was 'cool' to crank it up.....

I remember everyone going crazy over 'Comes Alive' and one day shy Joe spoke up and mentioned that its a very fine Greatest Hits collection.

Seems no one was a record and magazine geek like myself and no one realized Frampton had been around for a while - Think Humble Pie & The Herd....

I had collected all of the Frampton solo LP's leading up to comes alive - scored mostly at flea markets and yard sales... One day i brought a few of them to school and not only blew the minds of my schoolmates but became 'cooler' in their eyes...

Fast forward to a night at the Melody Tent when Lynn & I were to meet Peter Frampton. Following a great show there we were face to face with the guitar legend and like all of the British acts we have met he was kind, courteous and pardon the expression - Humble...

Long live Frampton Comes Alive and the artist who was front and center for those shows that were captured and became a want and need for collectors everywhere.
