The recent end to the commercial scalloping season has come to an end, and Nantucket officials have called it a success.
Figures from the Nantucket Shellfish Association and the municipal Natural Resources Department show the harvest came in at 87-hundred-nine bushels.
That is up more than 13 hundred bushels from last season, and 18-point-8 percent higher over the previous year.
A mild winter allowed the fleet to put to sea nearly every day the fishery was open.
Crews reported a strong scallop population, and a high number of juveniles, known as "seed" in the harbor.
The price per pound was down 20 dollars this year. In addition, a record low of 85 licenses were sold.
