Bidding Underway For New England Wind Power Production

Four companies placed bids Wednesday to provide offshore wind power to Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.

SouthCoast Wind has put in to deliver 12 hundred megawatts of power from turbines in its lease area, about 30 miles south of Martha's Vineyard.

The electricity would come through undersea cables from a planned substation at Brayton Point.

Previously, the company canceled contacts with Bay State utility companies and failed to attain the necessary financing.

A public meeting is planned for Swansea on April 4th.

The winners of the contract will be announced on August 7th.
