Martha's Vineyard Regional High School officials have filed for a permit to begin demolition of the current varsity athletic field.
The school plans to lay down a new synthetic turf field, plus a running track, along with new bleachers, lighting, and a press box.
The project was held up by a dispute that pitted the state Land Court against the Oak Bluffs Planning Board over a special construction permit, as the latter expressed concerns over PFAS substances in the turf.
A judge ruled in favor of the court, and the board filed a counter-appeal, with the demolition permit filed just two days later.
School officials say they are planning to move forward with the demolition, based on the Land Court ruling.
