Mass DEP Says No To Holtec Cape Cod Bay Plan

Massachusetts State Regulators have rejected a permit modification for the decommissioning of the nuclear power plant in Plymouth.

According to the permit being sought Holtec International had sought permission to be able to dump some one point one million gallons of industrial wastewater into Cape Cod Bay.

Before the decision by the Department of Environmental Protection becomes official there must be a 30-day public comment period which has already begun. State Senator Susan Moran praised the decision.

A spokesman for Holtec International said that they are disappointed by the decision...that the discharge would have been within state guidelines.

The spokesman says that the failure to grant to request will extend the timeline for totally decommissioning the plant, but he did not say by how long.
