Sea Turtle Strandings Occurring On Cape Later Than Usual

Stranding season is getting its latest start ever after three rare sea turtles washed up on Cape Cod beaches earlier this week.

The turtles came ashore to Eastham and Orleans beaches on Wednesday and were taken to a wildlife sanctuary for evaluation.

After the second warmest October in recorded history for Massachusetts causing the bay's once frigid waters to warm, wildlife officials are concerned more juvenile sea turtles may get trapped in Cape Cod Bay's unique hook shape.

Experts add recent years have seen above higher annual numbers of stranded turtles.
