A portion of the proceeds from the Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival will benefit Island Grown Schools, the Vineyard’s farm-to-school program. IGS seeks to raise a new generation of Vineyarders who are connected to local farms and farmers, empowered to make healthy eating choices, informed about the food system, and engaged in growing food for themselves, their families and community.
IGS programs impact almost every school-aged child on Martha’s Vineyard, more than 2,300 children. They have installed learning gardens at every public school and at six island preschools, lead classroom lessons and farm field trips, and bring more healthy, local food to school meals. IGS has worked with cafeteria staff to build infrastructure and develop relationships so that all public schools now regularly source locally grown foods.
