Ten Stranded Dolphins Find New Homes On Cape

Ten stranded dolphins have been back into the wild after more than 8 hours helping the animals survive.

Officials with the International Fund for Animal Welfare was able to help the mammals survive and release them into deeper waters in Wellfleet.

“This rescue had many challenges due to the number of dolphins, the difficult mud conditions, and having to deal with two simultaneous mass strandings," said Lauren Cooley IFAW Stranding Biologist. “The team was able to overcome all of these challenges to give these dolphins their best chance at survival.”

Officials say six of the dolphins were taken to deeper waters off of Provincetown using a custom designed vehicle.

Rescue crews were not able to save one of the dolphins who died from the original trauma.

“While the dolphins suffered from stress related to the stranding, we’re very optimistic and full of hope for their return to deeper waters,” added Cooley.
