Grant Helps Document History Of LGBTQ+ Community

The Provincetown Community Compact is getting a special grant from the National Park Service to help document the history of the LGBTQ community within the National Register Historic District.

Within a three square mile there are more than 12 hundred structures which is considered one of the largest districts in the state.

The grant is worth about 100 thousand dollars over a two year period.

The National Park Service is funding 21 projects in 19 states throughout the country for the purpose of documenting sites that are underrepresented in the Registry of Historic Places.

Provincetown will join Colorado and the Chelsea Hotel in New York as the only two other sites to focus on LGBTQ recognition.

The Provincetown Compact was founded back in 1983.
